An Ambassador's Work

((This is a continuation of that plot I'm working on with Eurict.))

Biara flushed crimson as Eurict kissed her on the cheek before running past her down the long narrow hallway. She laughed and turned to follow him. The interior of the cultist's den was filled with shouts and noises as more of the guardians of the place stirred into action, alerted by the two intruders and the echoing blasts of Biara's magic.

"Let's put an end to this before any more of those fools accost us in the hallways," Biara said to Eurict's back as he hurried down the passageway. She shook her head as she followed after him; the crazy elf had penetrated deep into the heart of the enemy's stronghold with nothing more than a dagger, his robes, and some guts the likes of which she'd not seen before. It was high time to see him rewarded for his efforts by slaying their mutual foe.

As her heels pounded on the stones of the passageway, they could both see a massive doorway up ahead. Barred by huge wooden doors, it was clear that the rooms beyond this point were not the living quarters or training grounds for the Twilight Cultists lurking within this part of the ruins. Something more lay beyond, and even Eurict could feel the magic beyond the portals despite his weakened senses and lack of magical power.

As the two neared the doors, they slowed to a walk and Biara strode ahead of her friend, imperiously studying the door as if it were a minor inconvenience in her otherwise pleasant day. She paused a foot from it, brought both hands up, palms outward, and shouted a word. Magical lightning twinkled in the air around her as her magic, combined with Eurict's, created a massive orb of arcane force that battered the two doors open and broke them from their hinges. Beyond the door was a large circular chamber, with another set of double doors leading off beyond that into what was presumably the innermost chambers of the structure.

The shattered pieces of wood hurtled into the room, a deadly barrage of splintered wood and razor sharp bits of door hinges. The interior of the circular chamber immediately became a charnel house of death as cultists were struck by the flying debris and slaughtered where they had been standing. Others were simply maimed, and lay in bloody pools on the ground, moaning. Biara stepped over the nearest of them as if they didn't exist; cultists and traitors deserved no more of her attention than the time it took to slaughter them.

"This way ambassador," she purred. "How rude of them not to properly announce our arrival. Fortunately I've managed to take care of that." She walked into the center of the room.

As one of Biara's expensive leather boots touched the center floor tiles in the chamber, Eurict's eyes widened and he shouted in alarm, "Biara! Watch out, there's a ward there!"

It was too late. Her boot had contacted the spell and it activated. Instantly four portals opened around the outskirts of the room, and burning destroyers, particularly powerful fire elementals, stepped through from the Firelands to aid the Cultist stronghold. Biara rolled as a massive wall of flames engulfed the space she had been standing in, coming to her feet and shouting out a counterspell as a second elemental attempted to cast a similar spell. It shivered as the magic around it was interrupted and it exploded a second later as a lance if burning cold shattered it.

Another elemental cast its spell, and Biara fell to the ground as flames <whooshed> over her head, shattering the stones of the wall behind her. She shouted a word and her own water elemental appeared, slamming into one of the fire elementals, steam spraying around the two as they fought. A second spell froze the ground around one of the three remaining foes, diminishing it and causing it to rear in agony. Biara followed the attack with a lance of icy power that sent the creature back to its own realm.</whooshed>

The last elemental rose up over Biara, and she turned in horror as it began to unleash flames down on her. At the last second the creature swayed sideways, flaring with steam. Again it steamed and Biara blinked in surprise as it began to diminish. As another puff of steam left it and it grew smaller, she saw Eurict standing behind it, methodically pouring his remaining healing potions on the thing one by one, dousing it. He smiled as he poured the last one, the flaming creature shrunken to the size of a small match. He stepped on it, snuffing it out forever.

"Well, that's ONE way of defeating fire elementals I suppose," Biara laughed. She turned and saw her own water elemental disappear as it took the remaining fire elemental with it.

Eurict grinned and nodded, "We make do with what we have on hand Lady Dayfire. I'll see that bastard Dawnweave dead no matter what!"

Biara looked around the now mostly charred room filled with the smoking, ruined bodies of cultists and grinned. "Well, I think at the very least he's going to know we're serious now hmmm? Time to teach him exactly what it means to do battle with the Magisters of our city."

The two smiled at one another and strode side by side towards the far double doors. A moment later they exploded inward, and the duo charged the inner sanctum of the Twilight Cult within Silvermoon City.
